Holiday hotspot to scrap strict travel rules for Brits next month

CYPRUS is scrapping more of their travel rules for Brits travelling to the country.

Currently, all Brits visiting the country must have a negative PCR test result taken within 72hrs before departure or a lateral flow test taken within 24hrs before departure.

Anyone over the age of 12 must also have a PCR test at the airport, costing between €15 – €19, followed by a third free lateral flow test after 72 hours, if you haven’t had your booster.

However, the country is scrapping the required tests for Brits entering the country.

Anyone who can show they have been fully vaccinated no longer needs to have a test before entering Cyprus, nor do they have to pay for a second test on arrival.

To be fully vaccinated, Brits have to have had their second jab less than nine months ago, or had their booster jab since.

The new rules are in place from March 1.

The Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos said unvaccinated adults will be allowed into the country as long as they follow testing and quarantine requirements, depending on the country they are arriving from.

Unvaccinated Brits will still need to have a pre-arrival test, as well as pay for the PCR test at the airport after arriving, as the UK remains on Cyprus’ red list.

Kids under 12 are exempt from all testing requirements.

All passengers must still fill in the Cyprus Flight Pass before travelling to the country too.

Jet2 has since resumed flights and holidays to Cyprus, with Jet2 boss Steve Heapy, adding that “Paphos [was] proving to be a very popular choice of holiday destination”.

Back in December, Cyprus was the first country to allow vaccinated travellers to avoid quarantine and negative coronavirus test restrictions.

However, last month, the country tightened travel restrictions for Brits, introducing the additional testing rules.
