Hogwarts Legacy – How To Get A Hippogriff

Hogwarts Legacy lets you explore the game world with a broom, but that’s not the only available mount. You get the chance to buy a broomstick early in the story, but you need to progress further with the main mission until you unlock The High Keep quest to finally get a Hippogriff.

You will meet a Hippogriff for the first time during the Beast Class main quest, but that’s not where you will get the chance to fly with this majestic creature. You will find all the information you need in this guide.

How to complete The High Keep quest

The High Keep quest belongs to the second half of the main storyline. You must have reached level 17 and have already learned Wingardium Leviosa from Professor Garlick’s Assignment 1. This spell is crucial to solving some of the puzzles in the quest.

In The High Keep, your friend Natsai Onai will ask you to meet her near Falbarton Castle, northeast of Hogsmeade. Once there, she will ask you for help retrieving a letter addressed to Theophilus Harlow and signed by Victor Rookwood.

Since the castle’s main gate is locked, you must find another way in. As you will soon discover, you can only enter by climbing the walls and, obviously, you can’t use your broom. Head to the right of the castle and get the first high ground by jumping towards the wall. You will soon notice a closed gate, which you can open by using Depulso on the mechanism on its left. You will spot a crate inside, which you need to move near the climbing spot with Wingardium Leviosa. Then, you can use Levioso to jump on in and reach the next area.

Then, you will find a wooden frame on the wall. Destroy it by casting the basic spell on it. However, a crate will block the entrance to the room. To solve this, walk on the footbridge that runs along the room until you see a window. Use Accio on the crate and then get back to the entrance. You will have no problem entering the Gatehouse.

Use Depulso on the mechanism on the left until the main gate is fully opened, and then cast Accio on the handle you will see in front of you to lock it. Your friend Natty will finally be able to reach you, but you will soon be separated again because the main wooden door will close before you enter the castle. You need to make your way up, and you will find different poachers here. Use the Disillusionment Charm and Petrificus Totalus, two of the most valuable spells in Hogwarts Legacy, to clear the area without being noticed. If you get spotted, get ready to fight.

As you progress in this area, you will find other crate puzzles, but they can all easily be solved with a combination of Accio, Wingardium Leviosa, and Levioso. You will eventually reach the top of the castle and find Highwing, the Hippogriff you met at your first Beast Class, chained to the floor, along with another one. Your friend Natty will soon reach you, and you will fly away on the two Hippogriffs, escaping the poachers.

How to get a Hippogriff in Hogwarts Legacy

You will get the chance to fly with Highwing until you reach a safe area near Hogwarts with Natty. This will conclude The High Keep quest, and from there, you will always be able to mount on a Hippogriff by opening the Tool Wheel.

If you have preordered Hogwarts Legacy, you will also unlock the Onyx Hippogriff. And if you have bought the Deluxe Edition or the Dark Arts pack, you will receive the Thestral Mount as well. You can change your mount appearance from the Gear menu. The difference between the three mounts is purely cosmetic, so don’t worry if you only have access to Highwing, as this won’t negatively impact your adventure.
