History made in utter Ashes domination

England’s horror summer in Australia is complete with the women’s Ashes tour wrapping up today.

Australia was victorious in the series’ third ODI, winning by eight wickets with 82 balls to spare. It capped off an undefeated series and a miserable summer for English cricket fans.

England won the toss and elected to bat, getting off to a solid start as opener Tamsin Beaumont notched 50.

However, Australia’s bowling contingent soon took effect. Pacewoman Annabel Sutherland claimed player of the match after an impressive four-wicket haul.

Aussie skipper Meg Lanning was unbeaten with the bat, scoring a half-century from 62 balls. She completed the victory in fine style with a boundary.

Allrounder Tahlia McGrath was also rewarded with the Peden-Archdale Medal for player of the series after Australia dominated the multiformat competition 12-4 on points.

England will depart Australia humiliated, their men’s, women’s and A teams suffering zero wins, 14 losses and four draws over their last few months abroad. The England women’s team finishes the series without a win for the first time in the multi-format era.
