Hijacked video ends in crazy $2.7m challenge

Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia have agreed to bet the entire purse of Sunday’s super fight, with the American pair putting $2.75 million on the line.

Davis was hosting an Instagram Live video with nearly 200,000 fans watching when Garcia joined the video from his car, with both fighters taunting each other before they decided to put up or shut up.

Davis initially challenged Garcia: “Yo, you wanna bet?”.

Garcia replied: “Yeah, let’s do it … I’m down”.

Davis: “The whole purse?”.

Garcia: “Let’s do it. The whole purse”.

He added: “You hear me on the live, let’s go, let’s make a contract, let’s sign it, both of us.”

The fight has been described as the biggest on the 2023 calendar so far with the bout to take place at a catch weight of 136 pounds.

A rehydration clause in the fight contract means Garcia will only be allowed to gain a maximum of 10 pounds between the weigh-in Saturday and the morning of the fight (Sunday).

“He’s a bigger fighter and he’s only growing,” said Davis to a group of reporters in March.

“He’s coming from like 170(lbs), 180. Why would I not have a rehydration clause in there? So he can blow back up to 150, 160 around the time we fight? No. I’m not dumb.”

Davis is guaranteed $2.2m for the fight according to ‘Sporting Payouts’, while the tounger Garcia is expected to earn $520,000.

The pay-per-view share, meanwhile, is split 60-40 to Davis, and could see the pair earn another combined $7.4m.

Garcia is the bigger man and has a five-inch height and three-inch reach advantage. He moved away from the lightweight division following his victory over Luke Campbell in 2021.

His last win was over Javier Fortuna, stopping him in the sixth round of their super lightweight clash in July of 2022.
