Here’s when Samsung smartphones will get 5G services in India – Times of India

PM Modi inaugurated 5G services in India earlier this month and soon after that, Airtel and Reliance Jio announced their 5G services. Currently, 5G services are available in around 13 cities in India and users can either use the 5G services in these locations either by visiting the particular location, in the case of Airtel or by getting an invite from Reliance Jio. Apart from that, users also need to meet certain requirements to be able to use 5G services. In addition to 5G services, a 4G SIM and a 5G smartphone, users will also need to have ‘5G software’ installed on their smartphone to use 5G on their phones.
Now, Samsung has confirmed that it is working with network service providers and will roll out an OTA update to enable 5G services for their 5G smartphones by mid-November.
This is what Samsung has officially said about the OTA update.

What we mean is, despite the smartphone being 5G capable, OEM’s require to enable the feature via a firmware update.
“Samsung has pioneered 5G technology development since 2009 and took the leading role in standardizing 5G technology globally. In India, Samsung has the widest portfolio of 5G devices. We are working closely with our operator partners and are committed to rolling out OTA updates across all our 5G devices by mid-November 2022, enabling Indian consumers to experience 5G seamlessly,” said a Samsung India spokesperson.”
As per a recent report by the news agency Reuters, the government has reportedly held a meeting with the executives of top telcos and smartphone brands. Top bureaucrats from India’s telecoms and IT departments will chair a meeting on October 11 for early 5G adoption.
According to a report, the government will push Apple, Samsung and other mobile phone manufacturers to prioritise rolling out software upgrades to support 5G in the country. The agenda includes holding talks “to prioritise” and release software upgrades for supporting the high-speed network, the notice for the closed-door meeting stated.
