Here’s Every PS5 Game That Supports 120fps Mode
The PS5 is a powerful console that, for the first time, brings 120fps gameplay to PlayStation consoles for the first time. While a majority of PS5 games can now run at 60fps (via updates or native versions), the list of games with 120fps modes is also steadily growing. Of course, the reason for the same can be attributed to the powerful AMD Zen 2 CPU in the console, which is miles better than the underpowered Jaguar CPU cores found on the PS4.
Running games are 120fps can require some visual sacrifices, which is why almost all games with such a mode don’t target 4K or enhanced graphics when set to the high performance mode. While 120fps at 4K is only available on displays with HDMI 2.1 ports, older displays with HDMI 2.0 can also support 120fps, just at a lower resolution, generally at 1080p. While that shouldn’t be a problem as most games don’t render at 4K when running at 120 fps anyway, it’s something to consider.
Here’s every game on the PS5 that can run at 120fps, along with what resolutions they target while in the mode:
- Borderlands 3 (1080p)
- Call of Duty Warzone (around 1440p)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (around 1440p)
- Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition (reconstructed 4K)
- Destiny 2 (at 1440)
- Dirt 5 (at 1440p)
- Doom Eternal (at 1440p)
- F1 2021 (at 1440p)
- Fortnite (at 1440p)
- Ghostrunner (Dynamic 4K)
- Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom (Native 4K)
- The Nioh Collection (at 1080p)
- Rainbow Six Siege (Dynamic 4K)
- Rogue Company (Dynamic 4K)
- Tony hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (Dynamic 1440p)
- WRC 9 (at 1080p)
How to Enable 120fps Mode on PS5?
120fps mode can be enabled on the PS5 via a couple of ways. The first, and most easy method, is to enable it in the system menu, which will be under the ‘Screen and Video’ setting. You can also set games to start in the ‘performance mode’ by default by changing the settings under the ‘Game Presets’ settings menu. Different games will require different settings to enable 120fps mode, so make sure to check out the game developer’s social media accounts or websites to find out how to enable it.
120fps: What’s The Advantage?
While most PC gamers have enjoyed the advantages of high refresh rate displays for a long time now, it’s something that’s new, for most people, in the console space. So what’s the advantage of running a game at 120fps? Why should you lose out on the crisp 4K visuals for more frames? Well, 120fps isn’t just twice as smooth looking than 60fps, it also reduces input lag by a huge amount. Games feel much more responsive at 120fps, the same way they do when you switch from 30fps to 60fps.
The introduction of 120 Hz mode on the new consoles have also opened the door to experimental performance targets in new games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. While the game doesn’t run at 120 fps, a recent update added an ability to run the game at 40 fps in fidelity mode, which is much more responsive than the usual 30fps. Of course, for most console players even 60fps should suffice as that kind of performance was largely missing from games in the last generation of consoles. However, if you have a capable display, you might want to try out the 120fps mode on the PS5.
