Here comes Summer by Isma Mirza Bentley Wood High School
Many residents in the local area of Harrow express their anticipation for summer and an end to the never-ending cold temperatures. Luckily, predicted temperatures range from 25-30 degrees in July with a predicted heatwave. Going on walks in the Newton Farm Ecology Park allows residents to enjoy nature, despite the current cold mornings. Anna and Paul, regular dog walkers at the park express their joy, “We cannot wait for the end to the miserable cold. The summer season is perfect for socialising and meeting up with friends, who we haven’t seen, especially due to the pandemic.”
Opinions at school
Many students at Bentley Wood express their delight after seeing some sunshine. Nisreen Hassen, a Year 12 student, says “the weather has been so crazy recently, once we even had snow, rain and sun in one day. Summer at Bentley Wood is lovely because we can sit outside during our breaks and enjoy the wonderful nature!” Other students argue that the season affects their ability to concentrate, such as Year 11 student, Maryam, who says that “In summer I enjoy revising outside and exercising, whilst in winter it is so hard to come to school and motivate myself to revise”. There are also a range of sports clubs, such as Football and Netball club for all years, available across all seasons, but attendance of members is often higher in summer. Many Sixth Formers also anticipate attending summer schools, such as Hadees Salam who “cannot wait to visit universities in-person”.
Overall, many residents across the local area, from dog-walkers to students are excited for a hot British summer when they can enjoy leisurely activities, whether this involves relaxing in the garden or visiting the beach.
