Here are the UK’S Ultimate Sea View competition winners
Prepare to be swept away but these stunning coastal scenes – which were all snapped in the UK.
The Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society’s annual photography competition saw more than 1,000 entries from both amateur and professional photographers.
Entrants were encouraged to capture the essence of the UK’s connection with the sea.
And the stunning shots are a clear example of the natural beauty that surrounds us on the shores of the UK.
The Shipwrecked Mariners’ provides financial support to former seafarers and their families who are suffering financial hardship due to accidents, ill health, unemployment or retirement after a life at sea.
Captain Justin Osmond, who was part of the judging panel, said: ‘Our seafaring community continues to face significant challenges every year despite the outstanding contribution it makes to our lives, so it is important that we are able to use the competition as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate our maritime industry and ensure that those working within it have access to vital support.’
So, let’s take a deep dive into some of this years winners.
Overall Prize
Photographer Justin Minns was the overall winner after judges fell hook, line and sinker for this gorgeous shot titled The Old Oyster Beds.
The breath-taking aerial shot was taken in Brightlingsea, Essex, and is a stunning glimpse of the UK’s coastlines.
Captain Osmond said: ‘We thought the image really encapsulated the beauty in Britain’s coastlines, an area of the fishing industry which can often feel neglected, but was particularly striking with the shipwreck’s presence alongside the oyster beds.’
Ships and Wrecks
Justin Minns photos clearly wowed the judges because he also won the Ships and Wrecks category with his entry Scattered which pictures two stranded ships.
Also taken in Essex, these boats were sat in the Thames Estuary underneath a gorgeous blue sky and pink clouds.
People and Recreation
This gorgeous pooch was photographed bounding through the sea on Skegness Beach.
The shot bagged Jason Thompson the title of winner for this category and we can see why.
The picture is appropriately titled My Playground as this lovely little cockerpoo charges along the Lincolnshire coast.
Coastal Views
Photographer Andrew Hocking bagged himself the win in the Coastal Views category with this beautiful shot.
The image shows a rainbow behind a lone lighthouse as waves crash in the foreground.
The picture is titled Unicorn and it is certainly a rare moment of beauty on a gloomy day.
