Hen do reveller banned from driving for drunken e-scooter slalom down street
A SLOSHED hen night reveller caught riding an e-scooter in and out of buses has been banned from driving.
Paige Burnley, 26, was stopped while weaving around on the two-wheeler at 10.40pm.
The cop breathalysed slurring, red-eyed Burnley who gave a reading of 75mg per 100ml, more than twice the legal limit, magistrates were told.
Burnley hopped on the Zwings e-scooter in Cheltenham, Gloucs — one of 30 towns in a government pilot to see if they are a safe form of green transport.
She hired the scooter after a taxi booked for the hens did not arrive.
Chris Hogg, defending, said she did not realise riding one after drinking was illegal.
He said: “She accepts ignorance of the law is no defence.”
Burnley, of North Hykeham, Lincs, admitted driving a motorised vehicle while over the limit.
District Judge Nicholas Wattam accepted she was “under a false impression” she could ride the scooter after boozing.
He added: “An e-scooter is a motorised vehicle.
“This was a dangerous activity for which there has to be a penalty.”
Burnley was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £500, with £85 costs and a £50 surcharge by Cheltenham JPs.
