Heavy Rain and landslides prompt school closures in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Due to heavy rain and landslides, schools in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab remained closed on Monday, July 10, 2023. The state governments made this decision as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
In Delhi, the torrential rain led to waterlogging in various areas, including ITO, Barakhamba Road, and IGI Airport. As a result, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had to temporarily halt operations at multiple stations due to water accumulation on the tracks.
Pragati Maidan Tunnel in Delhi has been temporarily closed for traffic amid waterlogging in several parts of the city, due to incessant rainfall.
Himachal Pradesh witnessed landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in districts like Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba. These landslides have obstructed roads and caused damage to houses and infrastructure in affected areas.
In the state, all government and private schools affiliated with the Himachal Board of School Education, along with government and private colleges affiliated to the Himachal Pradesh University and the SPU, will observe a two-day closure on July 10th and 11th.
Similarly, Punjab experienced waterlogging in regions such as Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana due to the incessant rain. As a precautionary measure, the state government conducted evacuations in low-lying areas to ensure the safety of residents.
With the weather department predicting further rainfall in the upcoming days, state authorities have advised people to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel. The priority is to ensure the well-being of individuals and minimize potential risks associated with the inclement weather conditions.
