‘Heavenly’ UK beach hidden by cliffs is like ‘being on Game of Thrones’

THE UK isn’t short of beautiful beaches – but there is one hidden gem that Brits have described as “heaven” – and there’s a pub nearby.

Many may think that Cornwall is top of the pile for its beaches – but Wales has stunning stretches of sand too, and are likely to attract fewer crowds.

Barafundle Bay – labelled the “Jewel’ of Pembrokeshire’s Beaches – boasts impressively clear blue waters and picture-perfect stretches of golden sand.

Nestled on the coastline of the National Trust’s Stackpole Estate between divine limestone cliffs – Barafundle Bay is often named as one of the world’s best beaches.

The bay is located off the beaten track – with no road access directly to the beach – and the nearest car park at Stackpole Quay is about half a mile away down the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

Many flocked online to rave about the beach, with one reveller equating the experience to a particular well-known TV show.

They wrote: “Heavenly place. What a view!!!

“Felt like I was in a set of GOT (Game of Thrones, not season 7 or 8 but the real GOT).

“I actually could sleep there for a few hours.”

Another echoed those thoughts, simply writing: “Heaven.”

Explorers who work up an appetite will be happy to hear that there is a pub a stone-throw away from the bay.

The Stackpole Inn is adored by locals and tourists alike for its beer and wine selections and culinary offerings prepared using local produce.

The rural watering hole even won the Travellers’ Choice Awards in 2021 for its mouth-watering meals – where explorers can chow down on buttery Welsh lamb, signature crunchy beer-battered cod and chips and Pembrokeshire beef carpaccio drizzled with a port reduction.

Many who cleared their plates recounted their experiences online.

“Turned up late for a roast. Service was great, very friendly waitress. Food was delicious. Large portions, everything perfectly cooked,” one wrote.

Another added: “Excellent service, an excellent range of beers with great food.

“Definitely put this pub very high on your visit list when your at Stackpole, Pembrokeshire.”
