Hayley Atwell ‘playing What If Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness’
This morning saw What If…? hit Disney+, an MCU animated anthology series telling stories from across the Marvel multiverse. The first episode followed an alternate reality from Captain America: The First Avenger in which Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter became a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers. The British star voiced her MCU character and now it looks like she may very well be returning to live-action very soon.
Giant Freakin Robot’s trusted and proven Marvel sources claim that Atwell will reprise her Peggy as the alternate version seen in the What If…? show.
But this time she will appear in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in full live-action.
The outlet made it clear they were unable to confirm Captain Carter’s screen time. However, the first What If…? episode may have given us some clues as to her involvement in Doctor Strange 2.

At the end of What If…Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?, Red Skull had unleashed a tentacled creature with the Tesseract which crushed him.
Peggy then sacrificed herself to force the monster back to its own dimension through a sort Stargate portal.
However, like Steve on ice in the Sacred Timeline, she only returns 70 years later when the portal reopens – in what has not been that long for her – and comes face to face with Nick Fury and Hawkeye.
As for that tentacled creature, Giant Freakin Robot reckons it to be Shuma-Gorath from the comics, a ruler of hundreds of dimensions.
Now let’s not forget that Loki introduced variants of the god of mischief, while Spider-Man No Way Home is heavily rumoured to feature Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parkers alongside Tom Holland’s.
So, by the looks of things,s the MCU seems to be building up multiple variants of its main characters.
And our best bet is that this is all heading to an Avengers 5 based on the Secret Wars comic books storyline. After all, how else can the MCU top Avengers Endgame other than having a massive multiversal war with a ton of superhero variants against Kang the Conqueror and his Council of Kangs?
