Hamilton learns penalty fate after complaints, Verstappen gets warning

Red Bull have been warned that Max Verstappen “wants a new team-mate” at the team amid claims of a rift between the Dutchman and Sergio Perez. The two drivers have been battling each other at the top of the grid so far this season, with each of them claiming two race victories ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix.

Verstappen, who is seeking a third successive title, leads Perez by six points in the drivers’ standings but after the Mexican’s double victory in Azerbaijan last time out he expressed his desire to compete against his team-mate for the championship. Team chief Christian Horner explained that it was a “luxury problem” but former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher insists that it is “clear” Verstappen wants Perez out of Red Bull.

“It’s difficult, and from my point of view it’s clear that the Verstappen’s side wants a new team-mate,” the Sky Germany pundit said. “I hear these rumours everywhere. I see it as a problem that Perez knows – his time at Red Bull Racing will expire. He’s fighting for his chance to play up front, to win, to have a say in the title.

“It is like this, the team-mate is always the biggest competitor. And who knows what possibilities there will be later. You can see from Lewis Hamilton how fast it goes. That’s why Sergio is now becoming more selfish and as far as selfishness goes, Max Verstappen can’t complain.”
