Habitat and Argos set to close more stores this month – affected locations

Habitat had stores and showrooms in Brighton, Leeds and London, but the company announced they will all be closed by the end of the month.

The furnishing brand decided to shut down all its remaining stores in the UK and move to solely online retail.

On their website, the retailer explained: “Habitat stores – our showrooms have now closed but you can still talk to one of our Habitat experts online.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to close our Habitat showrooms, but don’t worry you can still talk to one of our Habitat experts online. Habitat products are still available for home delivery and click & collect.”

Habitat was first opened in 1964 and the first store was located on Fulham Road, in Chelsea, London.

Argos, also owned by Sainsbury’s, has announced more store closures this summer, including one in Wales and one in England.

The retailer has more than 2,000 stores across the UK, and despite the closures, the company confirmed it will be expanding and will open 25 new Argos locations inside Sainsbury’s stores this year.

Luckily for shoppers, some of the affected stores will be relocating to other Sainsbury’s supermarkets around the same area. The closures are part of Argos’ plan to expand its presence in supermarkets and move away from the high street.

Argos stores closing this summer:

  • Cardiff Bay Retail Park, Cardiff – closing in July
  • Alexandra Retail Park, Grimsby – closing in August
  • St Stephen’s shopping centre, Hull – closing in August
  • Lakeside Retail Park, Scunthorpe – closing in August
  • Maesglas, Newport – closing this summer
