Gwyneth Paltrow has spoken out for the first time since winning the high-profile ski collision lawsuit against Terry Sanderson.

The Shakespeare in Love actress, 50, had been sued by the retired optometrist over the incident at the Deer Valley ski resort in Utah over seven years ago, which left him with several broken ribs and severe head injuries.

The Shallow Hall star had denied the claim, and accused Sanderson, who had been seeking $300,000 (£243,000) in damages, of crashing into her, resulting in her losing ‘half a day of skiing’ with her family and being ‘sore’.

On Thursday jurors returned a verdict clearing her of all fault after just over two hours of deliberation and apportioned ‘100%’ of the blame to Sanderson for the crash, with Paltrow being awarded ‘symbolic’ counterclaim of $1 (81p), as well as attorney fees.

Hours after the case concluded, the Goop founder posted a statement on her Instagram Stories and said the trail had ‘compromised her integrity.’

She wrote: ‘I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity.

‘I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge [Kent] Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.’

Both she and Sanderson were present in court as the verdict was read out.

Paltrow wore a blue blazer, with a white shirt and brown trousers, and did not appear to react as the verdict was returned, but let out a long breath.

As she exited the courtroom she touched Sanderson on the shoulder and whispered something to him.

Sanderson told reporters outside court following the verdict the actress had said ‘I wish you well’, adding that it had been ’very kind’.

‘I said, “Thank you dear”,’ he said.

Sanderson added the verdict had been ‘very disappointing’ and continued: ‘You get some assumed credibility in being a famous person.

‘Who wants to take on a celebrity? Someone who learns lines and how to play someone else’s part.’

Giving evidence on Wednesday Sanderson told the court it was ‘very difficult’ to sue a celebrity and said he felt the point of the trial had been to make him ‘regret’ bringing action against the Hollywood actress.

Paltrow previously said she felt ‘very sorry’ for Sanderson’s health decline following the incident, but maintained she had not been ‘at fault’ and said she had been the ‘victim’.
