Gwyneth Paltrow breaks silence after being cleared over ski accident
Gwyneth Paltrow was sued by fellow skier Terry Sanderson after a collision between the two of them on the slopes back in 2016 which he claimed had left him with brain damage.
Now the 50-year-old ex-actress has taken to Instagram, explaining she felt it would have compromised her integrity to pay the $300,000 (£242,100) asked of her.
“I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity,” she wrote in a message to her 8.3 million followers.
“I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.”
In just two hours, a team of jurors had found retired optometrist Terry Sanderson “100 per cent” responsible for the collision.
It had been hoped that GoPro footage of the incident might surface, determining who was at fault, but in the absence of that, the decision was made by the jury.
As she left the courtroom, Gwyneth touched her accuser on the shoulder, whispering to him: “I wish you well.”
He is now expected to cover the symbolic $1 she requested in the courtroom, plus her legal fees.

Gwyneth’s lawyer, Steven Owen, had stated: “Gwyneth has a history of advocating for what she believes in – this situation was no different and she will continue to stand up for what is right.”
Meanwhile, Sanderson disclosed that he was “very disappointed” by the verdict, claiming that issues had been raised which were “absolutely not true”.
The 76-year-old was treated for broken ribs and concussion after his fall and has since claimed that there have been long-lasting implications for him, including a loss of pleasure for events like wine-tasting and a personality change.
He claimed that Gwyneth had collided with him, yelled at him while he lay on the ground injured and then left the scene of the accident.
For her part, the Goop founder admits that she shouted, as she believed him to be responsible for what happened.

However, she says she only left the scene because her daughter was waiting for her, and that an assistant stayed with the injured party instead.
Gwyneth previously claimed that she found ski resorts a difficult place to be in, as it brought back memories of her late father, who died of cancer more than 20 years ago.
His death took place days after a trip to Italy to celebrate her birthday, leaving the actress devastated.
“We were doing our first road trip after my 30th birthday and he kind of died on me,” she divulged in one of her Goop podcasts.
However, she also revealed that she later heard an inner voice telling her that she must teach her children to ski, which broke the pattern of avoiding the slopes.
