Heavy metal band GWAR teams up with Z2 comics for a new graphic novel, which is subtitled The Duoverse of Absurdity.
Z2 Comics has announced a new graphic novel with GWAR.
According to the press release from Z2 Comics, Michael Derks and Matt Maguire will write GWAR: The Duoverse of Absurdity, while artists Andy MacDonald and Shane White will illustrate the book. There will be several editions that contain, among other things, a custom signed guitar, an NFT sketch from Sawborg Destructo and prints. The announcement comes shortly after GWAR announced a new album, The New Dark Ages, for release in June. Duoverse of Absurdity is said to be a companion to The New Dark Ages.
Speaking of the project, Blöthar the Berserker, who is the band’s current lead vocalist, said, “What a page turner! I read the whole thing in a single dump.”

Founded in 1984, GWAR is a heavy metal/satirical shock rock band that embraces science fiction ad fantasy themes in its work. The band was originally fronted by Dave Brockie. However, despite Brockie’s death in 2014, the band has continued on. Current members include Mike Derks and Brad Roberts. Over the years, GWAR has released more than a dozen albums and earned hundreds of thousands in sales as well as several Grammy nominations. Outside of music, GWAR has branched into other media, such as comics and board games.
Z2 Comics publishes graphic novels and is most well known for its collaborations with musicians. Some examples of those titles include Genesis 1 and Poppy’s Inferno, which were written by musician Poppy. Additionally, outside of those graphic novels, Z2 Comics also published The Gorillaz Art Book, Judas Priest: Screaming For Vengeance, among other works.
Duoverse of Absurdity is available to pre-order now from Z2 Comics and slated for release on June 3. Vinyl will take extra time and ship on Sept. 16. Depending on the tier, costs for Duoverse of Absurdity range from between $24.99 for just the standard softcover to $4,999.99 for the “Bundle of the Beast” version.
