Gun’s ‘surreal’ hat-trick follows century on same day
History has been made in first-class cricket, with Gloucestershire’s Tom Price becoming the first cricketer in the format to score a century and take a hat-trick on the same day.
Price’s first milestone came with the bat when he saved his side’s innings, smashing 109 runs off 98 balls against Worcestershire in the County Championship.
The 23-year-old came to the crease at 7-45 and was the last wicket to fall when Gloucestershire was all out for 231.

Price then went to work with the ball, taking 4-38 which included a remarkable hat-trick – all completed on day one of the match.
Worcestershire openers Ed Pollock and Jake Libby got the side off to a great start with a 58-run partnership before the history-maker claimed a hat-trick with this second spell.
His victims were Pakistan captain Azhar Ali, Jack Haynes and Brett D’Oliveira, who were all caught behind in the 19th over.
Worcestershire eventually finished the day at 7-118 and will hope a similar seventh-wicket partnership can rescue the match.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the day, Price was over the moon with his unbelievable achievement.
“It’s a bit surreal,” he said.
“It won’t sink in for a while. I’ll wake up in five minutes and it will all feel like a dream.
“I don’t really know what to say. It has been an amazing day. I’m pretty tired, but pretty delighted.
“I’m really happy to have contributed. It was tricky out there, but we tried to be positive while still having a tight defence and waited for the ball to get softer later on. I just kept it simple.”
Price’s achievement put him in esteemed company, with only 15 first-class cricketers to have completed the double milestone in the same match.
Ashes squad member Marcus Harris is the only Australian playing in the match and disappointed for Gloucestershire, scoring 1 at the top of the order.
