Gujarat Technological University to confer degrees to over 48k students at convocation tomorrow – Times of India

The annual convocation of the Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will be held on February 2 and in-charge VC Pankaj Patel will preside over the function. According to a statement Praful Pansheriya the minister of state for Primary, Secondary, Adult and Higher Education will be the guest of honour and Rushikesh Patel, the state education minister will be the chief guest.
The university will confer degrees to 48,881 students and medals to 149 students.
Sources in the university said that the university had planned the convocation in the last week of January but state governor Acharya Devvrat was not available so the function has been delayed to February first week.
Sources said that usually some well known technocrat or industrialist is invited for the convocation but this year’s convocation will have any other guests than the government officials and university staff.
Sources said that incharge VC will have to preside over the function as the government delayed in forming the search committee to appoint new VC after Navin Sheth’s term expired in December 2022. The government formed the four-member search committee on Tuesday which will shortly choose a candidate for the VC’s post.
