Guests can stay at the Queen’s summer residence for as little as £15 per night
THE QUEEN is offering discounted stays on one of her estates, meaning holidaymakers can live like royalty for as little as £15 per person.
Cottages on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland, home of the Royal family’s summer residence Balmoral Castle, are available from the start of October, and bookings are open now.
The budget stays can be booked from January 7 to March 31 next year, with prices as low as £15.80 per person per night.
That price is to stay in the cheapest of the available lodges – the Colt Cottages – for a week.
The Colt Cottages are situated close to Balmoral Castle, near the Estate’s office and stables.
Each of the cottages can host a maximum of five guests at a time.
They all consist of a lounge with dining area and double sofa bed, a kitchen, a double bedroom, a single bedroom and a shower room.
Holidaymakers staying in the cottages can arrange for deliveries from nearby bakers, delis and butchers.
There are two of the Colt Cottages, both of which are semi detached.
They can be occupied separately or if required they can be used to host one large family.
Bookings at Colt Cottage run on a Saturday to Saturday basis and they are available throughout the year.
The only time the cottages aren’t available is when the Queen is staying at Balmoral.
At the other end of the price scale, the most expensive cottage is the Rhebreck Lodge.
The lodge is set in a quiet location at Easter Balmoral and offers views across the valley towards Crathie Church and also over the golf course.
The detached property, which can sleep seven people, has a lounge with log burner, dining room, dining kitchen, utility room, two double bedrooms, twin room with day bed, shower room and bathroom with separate shower.
Bookings at Rhebreck Lodge can cost as much as £1,620-per-week.
These luxury lodges are also available in the UK from £9pp a night this autumn.
Near to Balmoral is the town of Ballater, where the Queen orders fish and chips from when staying at the castle.
