GTA Trilogy Games Don’t Include All Cheats

GTA The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition features many of the original games’ cheat codes, but not all of them. Producer Rich Rosado told USA Today that some needed to be cut for technical reasons, though Rosado didn’t elaborate or reveal the specific cheat codes that don’t work.

The updated versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas were developed by Grove Street Games using the Unreal Engine. The engine is apparently one of the reasons why some of the cheat codes didn’t make the cut. In GameSpot’s own testing, we found that the invisible cars cheat for GTA III does not appear to work.

“We actually had to remove a couple for technical reasons, certain things that didn’t play well in the Unreal base,” Rosado said. “But that’s actually where I’ll leave it. There’s some fun with discovery. I’m not saying plus or minus, but I’d rather not just go right on the nose before the release of the game and go straight to the end credits.”

Rosado didn’t say if any new cheat codes were added, either, so apparently fans will have to find out for themselves now that The Definitive Edition is out.

In other news, Rockstar recently confirmed that it recycled some of GTA V’s refrigerators and trees as assets for the GTA Trilogy re-releases. According to a report, if the GTA re-releases perform well, Rockstar might remaster Red Dead Redemption next.

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.
