GTA 6 release date: Exciting rumour for impatient Grand Theft Auto fans

Another month, another wave of GTA 6 rumours suggesting what Rockstar Games is planning on doing next. As usual, many of these have been plucked from online forums, and almost all come from unverifiable sources. The latest wave of reports suggests that the first next-gen Grand Theft Auto reveal will be held in 2021 and is only weeks away.

And while we must warn everyone to take the news with a big pinch of salt, there are hopes that something like this will happen. The radio silence surrounding the GTA 6 release date following years of wait has left many gamers desperate to hear more, and there’s a good chance that there are a few pranksters out there ready to share anything to get some attention.

But for those who are willing to believe it, several sketchy rumours are doing the rounds that the first GTA 6 teaser will be shared in late November. If this did happen, it wouldn’t run against how Rockstar Games has launched games in the past.

Both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 came out two years after being announced, meaning a reveal next month would still fit in with an eventual GTA 6 release date scheduled for 2023.

It certainly doesn’t run against the narrative that Rockstar Games will be launching its next Grand Theft Auto project way into the future, which is when there will be plenty of next-gen console owners around and supply chain issues would have eased.

So why wouldn’t Rockstar Games choose to reveal more GTA 6 this November?

The one thing that holds back this rumour a little is the timing it would have on one of the studio’s other major development projects that have been pushed back until 2022.

While a Remastered Trilogy is coming out containing GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas which wouldn’t see its sales harmed, there is another which is much more important to Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

This would be GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series X, now launching during 2022 and offering Take-Two the chance to continue cashing in on GTA Online’s huge popularity.

A recent message explaining the delay in launching the port from Rockstar Games reveals:

“Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online will now arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S March 2022, featuring a range of technical and graphical improvements across the entire experience including performance enhancements for select vehicles in GTA Online, and so much more.

“While we are extremely excited to be bringing GTAV to the latest generation of consoles, the game requires a few additional months for polishing and fine-tuning. We look forward to sharing more details about these expanded and enhanced versions soon, including the new standalone version of GTA Online also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March.”

So why having spent so long not talking about GTA 6 would you suddenly start sharing information, months before releasing a title that will be pivotal to your recurrent spending revenue?

Rockstar Games could choose to do something like and add a 2023 release date tagline, confirming that there was no reason to skip GTA 5 on next-gen consoles.

But even with this information in place, there is no way that the news that GTA 6 wasn’t coming out for years wouldn’t affect Take-Two’s share price.

So it will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens in November regarding the Grand Theft Auto project.
