GSHSEB parent member readmits his Class 12 pass out son in Class 11 to retain membership – Times of India

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has removed a parent member from the board as his son has cleared Class 12 exam recently. The member Dhiren Vyas’ membership was terminated before his term came to an end. As he was removed from the board, Vyas got his son readmitted in Class 11 science and has written to the board to reinstate his membership as a parent member of the board.
The board has nine elected members of which three are elected from the parents’ association. Vyas was one of the three elected members representing students’ parents. Sources on board said that one year ago, Vyas had said in an affidavit to fight election that his son is a Class 12 general stream student. He had won the election and had become a parent member in the board.
However, on May 31, GSHSEB announced Class 12 general stream results and Vyas’ son cleared the exam. As the parent member must be a parent of a Class 1-12 student, the board decided to terminate Vyas’ membership during the general meeting held on June 2 midway of his term.
Reacting to this decision Vyas wrote to the board saying that his son has taken admission in Class 11 science stream now in the same school, so he is still eligible as a parent member of the board. Vyas has asked the board to reinstate him as the parent member of the board.
Sources said that the board has not taken any decision on this and added that if the board doesn’t take Vyas back on the board, he may approach court.
“We have officially conveyed to Vyas that as his son has passed out of Class 12, he is not anymore entitled to hold the parent member position in the board. He is not eligible to hold on to the post as his son has passed out of Class 12,” said NG Vyas, secretary of GSHSEB.
“The board has asked for clarification from me on my membership. I have responded to saying that my son has passed out of Class 12 general stream but has got an admission in Class 11 science stream in the same school. I am awaiting the board’s decision,” said Dhiren Vyas.
Sources said that this is not the first time the board has removed a parent member in the middle of his term. In the past two parent members were removed from the board as their wards were not school students anymore.
