Gripping Lord of the Rings prequel trailer drops during Super Bowl 2022

The first trailer for the Lord of the Rings prequel series has dropped during the Super Bowl 2022, and it’s definitely been worth the wait.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be released on September 2 on Amazon Prime Video, taking place 2,000 years before the adventures of the fellowship.

Amid the Los Angeles Rams’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals, a TV ad aired, giving us the first official look at what the series – thought to be the most expensive show of all time – has in store.

The clip began with the question: ‘Haven’t you ever wondered what else is out here? There’s wonders in this world beyond our wandering.’

A message then flashed across the screen, warning: ‘Before the King. Before the Fellowship. Before the Ring. A new legend begins this fall.’

The Rings of Power will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, before the events of the original Lord of the Rings and Hobbit novels and films.

It will follow an ensemble cast of characters as they confront the re-emergence of evil in the mythical land.

According to reports, the cast is made up of 22 characters who will be caught up in multiple storylines throughout.

Among those are actress Morfydd Clarke, who is starring as elven queen Galadriel, commander of the Northern Armies.

While Sophia Nomvete plays a new character – dwarven princess Disa – with Ismael Cruz Córdova’s as Silvan elf, Arondir.

Amazon landed the rights to adapt the world of JRR Tolkien for television in 2017 as part of a huge deal but filming for the prequel only ended last year.

The official synopsis reads: ‘This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

‘Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

‘From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.’

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power is released on Amazon Prime Video on September 2.
