Greg O’Shea has dreadful start to London Marathon after forgetting watch
Love Island star Greg O’Shea had a nightmare start to his London Marathon after forgetting his GPS watch, meaning he had no way to track the time he was running at.
The reality television star, who won the fifth series of the ITV2 dating show with Amber Gill, is among the 50,000 people taking part in the mammoth race in the capital today.
Ahead of taking his position at the start line, Greg revealed the nightmare situation while calling upon fans to offer their support along the 26.2mile route.
‘I left my GPS watch back at the house so I’m going to have absolutely no idea what pace I’m running, what time I’m running, so I’m going to really need your help guys,’ he said in a video shared on his Instagram Story.
‘If you’re coming today to the London Marathon just shout at me, keep me going, I’m going to need the motivation.’
He continued: ‘I’m hoping there is going to be clocks along the route so I have some idea of what kind of time is going, but I’m really looking forward to it.’
Greg is running the Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of his beloved ‘nana’ Monica Ho, who died from the disease while he was on Love Island.
‘I’m running the London Marathon and raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research because I feel like I owe my Nana something and I also don’t want other families to hurt the way we did,’ he wrote on his Just Giving page.
‘All money raised will be funding the EDoN project which looks at the early detection of Neurodegenerative diseases and is the largest initiative in the world that will collect, share and analyse clinical and digital health data to detect diseases such as Alzheimer’s earlier and more accurately.’
At the time of writing, Greg has raised €11,403 (£10,024) for the charity.
Greg isn’t the only familiar face taking on the mammoth race today, as Strictly Come Dancing star Tyler West is also running.
Speaking to presenter Gabby Logan about why he signed up to take part while also competition on Strictly, he explained: ‘I committed to it earlier on in the year and I’m never going to let people down.’
