Grammy Awards 2023: Viola Davis wins Grammy for her audiobook Finding Me, gets EGOT status

Viola Davis won her first Grammy for her audiobook of her memoir, Finding Me, completing her EGOT collection.

EGOT is an acronym that represents a recipient of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony award.

In her acceptance speech, Viola said that she honours her book to her six-year-old self. She said, “To honour her life, her joy, her trauma, everything. And, it has just been such a journey – I just Egot!”

The 57-year-old actor has been nominated for four Academy Awards, making her the most nominated Black actor in history. In 2017, she won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her performance in Fences. In 2010, she won a Tony award as best lead actress for the same role in the original Broadway play.

Before Fences in 2010, Viola also won a best-featured actress Tony for her role in the Broadway play, King Hadley II, in 2001. She is also a five-time Emmy nominee and won one in 2015 for her role in the TV series How to Get Away with Murder.
