Govt to provide free civil services coaching to 200 aspirants, applications invited – Times of India
BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department will provide free coaching for 200 aspirants appearing for civil services examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The enrolment for the free coaching will be through a pre-qualifying entrance examination.
The State Selection Board of the department will conduct the examination on March 26 for selection of top 200 aspirants. The Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) will develop the online module for registration of the aspirants for the entrance examination.
In this connection, the department has come up with a guideline and timeline for selection of aspirants for the free UPSC civil services coaching. It has invited applications for this entrance examination from aspirants starting from Saturday. Last date of application is March 4.
According to the guideline, selected aspirants will get free coaching, free food with accommodation facilities in Bhubaneswar. They will stay in the accommodation provided by the department. A candidate must be a domicile of Odisha to appear in the entrance examination. Reservation policy of the state will be followed for selection of civil services aspirants.
A candidate from unreserved category must be in the age group of 21-30 years. He/she must possess a graduation degree or any equivalent qualification. The offline examination of two-hour duration will consist of one paper of objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 200 marks (Section-A and B). It follows the syllabus of UPSC civil services examination. There will be a penalty (negative marking) for each wrong answer (0.5 mark per wrong answer).
The entrance examination will be conducted in each of the five regional directorates of education zones- Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Jeypore and Sambalpur. Candidates can apply online by using the higher education department website or Student Academic Management System (SAMS) website. They need to pay Rs 100 online towards application fees while submitting the application.
Official sources said the department has roped in ACQ IAS Academy to provide civil services coaching to the selected aspirants. Though the department has not finalised the place of accommodation, it has discussed with the National Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences (NISWASS) Bhubaneswar for this.
