Gorillaz Art Book Pre-Order Date, Contributors Announced With Funky New Trailer
Gorillaz’ upcoming 288-page art book has a new trailer, list of contributors and June release date.
Gorillaz’ Instagram account posted a new trailer for The Gorillaz Art Book, which comes from Z2 Comics, the bands co-creator Jamie Hewlett and over 40 artists. The post also revealed a new release date for the book, June 17. “Gorillaz have always collaborated with music, but this is the first time we’ve done an art collaboration,” Hewlett previously in a statement about The Gorillaz Art Book via Pitchfork. “I’ve really enjoyed working with so many of my favorite artists and the result is this amazing book.”
Contributors to The Gorillaz Art Book include Ana Godis, Andre Carrilho, Andrew C. Robinson, Anna Cattish, Ben Bocquelet, Brendan McCarthy, Chloe Nicolay, Craig McCracken, Dana Terrace, Daniela Uhlig, Del the Funky Homosapien, EPHK, Erik Fountain, Glyn Dillon, Gregory Hergert, Holly Warburton, J.A.W. Cooper, Jack Black, Jared Cody Wolf, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Jens Claessens, Jeremy Enecio, Kerbcrawlerghost, Kim Jung Gi, Laurie Vincent, Little Thunder, Marella Moon Albanese, Marianna Ignazzi, Miss Jisu, Nicolas Dehghani, Robert Smith, Robert Valley, Ruffmercy, Sainer, Tara Billinger, Taya Strizhakova, Tim McCourt & Max Taylor, Valeria Ko, Vanesa R. Del Rey, Venla Linna, Vincent Roucher, William Wray and Zeen Chin.
Gorillaz was created by Hewlett and Damon Albarn in 1998. Current members of the virtual band include 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs. The band has so far released seven studio albums, along with three compilation albums and eleven extended plays (EPs). Gorillaz has sold over 25 million records worldwide and are cited in the Guiness Book of World Records as the world’s “Most Succesful Virtual Band.” The band is also working on an animated movie with Netflix that does not yet have a release date.
Gorillaz previously partnered with Z2 Comics when the band released their very first comic book, Gorillaz Almanac, in October 2020. “Every fan of comics and animation has dreamed of seeing the Gorillaz make their comic book debut, with the Z2 team chief among them,” Z2 publisher Josh Frankel said at the time. “The artwork, the music and the mythos all add up to what is destined to be one of our most buzzed about releases in history, and when fans see just what we have planned, I know everyone will agree it was well worth the wait.”
The Gorillaz Art Book releases on June 17. Pre-orders are now available on Z2 Comics’ website.
