Gordon issues farewell message to Bolton after contract ends

Liam Gordon has said he will ‘miss’ all at Bolton Wanderers and wished the club all the best for the future after it was announced he will be among the players departing the Whites this summer.

The 22-year-old full-back is among eight players to leave Wanderers after the conclusion of the League One season.

He played a total of 36 times for Wanderers after joining the club on a two-year deal in the summer of 2020, with 21 of these appearances coming this season.

In the 2020/21 campaign, Gordon played 15 times for Wanderers and began the season as the club’s first choice option on the left hand side of the defence, before falling down the pecking order.

He spent the second half of last season out on loan at former club Dagenham & Redbridge, before returning to the League One club after their promotion out of League Two.

Gordon was back-up for Declan John, the first choice option on the left hand side of the defence, often filling in when the Welshman was unavailable, and even had a couple of games at right-back when injuries required someone to fill the gap in that area of the pitch.

But Wanderers have confirmed today that Gordon is one of eight players released by the club as it announced its retained list.

Alex Baptiste, Andrew Tutte, Nathan Delfouneso, Liam Edwards and Reiss Greenidge have all been released, as have youngsters Matty Alexander and Jay Fitzmartin.

And Gordon has now taken to Twitter to react to his time at Wanderers coming to an end and has wished the club well for the future.

He wrote: “Thank you for everything @OfficialBWFC will miss you all. All the best for the future.”
