Google warns all Android users over time limit to stop bank-drain attack
GOOGLE Play users have been informed of an important feature that can help them prevent losing money to unauthorized charges.
Released in 2012, Google Play is an online store where Android users go to download apps, games, movies, TV shows, books, and more.
Google Play is very convenient in that all you need is your device and a payment method or Google Pay to make purchases.
However, sometimes you might come across an unauthorized charge on your account.
This can happen by accident or because of a third party like a friend or family.
Either way, Google will offer you a refund for some purchases – but it’s important to note there is a time limit on how long you can wait.
REFUND REQUESTS
If a purchase was accidentally made by a friend or family member using your account, you can request a refund on the Google Play website.
If you noticed a Google Play purchase on your card or another payment method that wasn’t made by you or someone you know, you have 120 days to report it.
FOR RECENT PURCHASES
Google notes that if it’s been less than 48 hours since you bought an app or made an in-app purchase, you can request a refund through Google Play.
If you purchased movies, books, or other content, you may be able to request a refund more than 48 hours after your purchase.
The tech giant noted it usually takes one to four business days to get a decision back.
CHECK STATUS
After you request a refund through the Google Play website or the “Request a refund” button found here, you can check the status here.
“If you don’t find your purchase on the recent purchases list, you can request a refund from the Google Play website,” Google noted.
The tech giant caveated that “refund policies are different depending on what you bought.”
“You may get an automatic refund if you uninstall a paid app shortly after first buying it,” Google said.
