Google redesigns Phone app for Wear OS ahead of Pixel Watch launch – Times of India

Google is set to release the next generation of Pixel smartphones — the Pixel 7 series at an event that is scheduled for later today (October 6). Apart from the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro handsets, the tech giant will also reveal the Pixel Watch – the first smartwatch from Google. The upcoming Pixel Watch will run Wear OS and the company is now rolling out a redesigned version of its Phone app through the Play Store.
The company has been focusing on the development of Wear OS apps for some time now. The new Wear OS Phone app comes with a similar interface that was leaked by retailers along with Pixel Watch rumours, as per a report by 9to5google. Google teased the wearable at Google’s I/O 2022 and it has been in the news since.

Google Phone app for Wear OS: New design
The new Google Phone app includes circular UI elements for each section which are also available in other redesigned Wear OS apps like Play Store and more. The title for each section appears at the top of the screen and also has rounded shapes. Moreover, to compliment the watch design, the time (that appears at the top of the UI) will also be curved to match the aesthetics.
For reference, the sections that are available within the Google Phone app for Wear OS include a dial pad, contacts list, recent calls, favourite contacts and even voicemail. During an ongoing call, two options – end call and mute button – appear when it detects another incoming call. Users can also scroll to find quick replies to send to the caller before answering a call. The new design isn’t likely to be limited just to Wear OS 3 as the same app is available on other Wear OS smartwatches.

Google says that the new Wear OS is made especially for the iconic circular design and “reimagined to feel fluid.” The Pixel Watch will also allow wearers to track your health and fitness goals, “and get insights for healthier habits.”
