Google I/O 2023: The Biggest AI and Pixel Announcements Today

The Google I/O 2023 keynote happened live today, leaving behind a slew of exciting AI announcements and new tech products. Google’s 15th annual developer conference was focused heavily on artificial intelligence for businesses and users. With updates coming to pretty much all of Google’s core apps, the future of AI is coming soon alongside new Pixel devices.

Google Pixel Fold Release Date and Price

Powerd by Tensor G2, Android, and AI, the Pixel Fold is the the thinnest foldable phone on the market. With a 7.6-inch display when unfolded, it’s a mix between a smartphone and a tablet.

The Pixel Fold is now available for preorder for $1,799 at the Google Store and will release next month. If you preorder the Pixel Fold, you will also get a free Pixel Watch.

Pixel Tablet Preorder and Price Announced

The Google Tablet will feature a 10.95 inch LCD display with 2560×1600 resolution, which will be powered by Tensor G2, with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage depending on the model. The Pixel Tablet also includes a charging speaker dock that allows you to charge your device while using it as a smart display.

The tablet comes in 3 different colors and is available for preorder right now for $499. The tablet dock also comes with that price.

Google Bard Updates

Now fully running on PaLM 2, Google’s Bard AI has been receiving some major updates. Bard is now capable of code generation and debugging within a total of 20 programming languages. Some of the bigger improvements being added are additional exports, including sending responses to Gmail, Google Sheets, and Docs.

Along the same lines of Bard becoming more connected with Google products, the AI will be able to utilize Google Lens and Google Maps data. Bard will also soon be able to connect to various other select apps outside of the Google ecosystem. Additionally, Google has added the highly coveted Dark Mode for those who don’t like a white background.

Google’s Bard is now available in over 180 countries across the world and the waitlist has been removed.

Pixel 7a Officially Announced

Google announced it’s budget phone for the Pixel 7 series. With upgrades to the camera and powered by the Tensor G2 chips. The Pixel 7a is available right now at the Google Store for $499 and offers a special Coral model.

Duet AI Google App Updates

Help Me Write will be a new addition to Gmail. Type in the prompt of what you want to say and generative AI will automatically write an email for you. You can even choose to make the email more elaborate to get more detail. It will also pull in information from previous emails in the thread to generate your email.

This feature will be rolling out with Google’s Duet AI workplace updates, which will include AI updates to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Additionally, there will be a Duet AI update coming to Google Cloud that will be focused on business tools.

Generative AI in Search

Longer queries will soon be able to give you more specific results thanks to AI. Additionally, Google’s shopping system will be more integrated into search by offering more specific information as well as a conversationals style preview.

The integration of AI will also allow an evolution of search queries by allowing you to ask Google to do things for you – such as building you a quiz or generating a list of responses. These updates are still experimental, but they will be rolling out in Labs in the coming weeks. If you’re in the U.S., you can join the waitlist at g.co/Labs to help test the new features.

Magic Editor for Google Photos

Google’s new photo editing tool will allow you to make complex adjustments to photos with ease. Magic Editor will allow you to move objects and automatically generate the background behind it. This feature will be coming later this year to select Google Pixel devices.

PaLM 2

PaLM 2 (Pathways Language Model) is Google’s latest AI solution for business. It has been trained on multilingual texts and offers some powerful coding capabilities. The service can help developers by suggesting bug fixes and include comments that you can follow. PalM 2 is now available in preview and is currently powering Bard.

Project Tailwind Waitlist

Tailwind is an AI tool that will be able to pull in key concepts and questions from various Google Docs in your Drive. Working like an AI that is trained on your own notes, AI will be able to learn from the information you feed it to help you understand large amounts of information and organize it for you. It will also cite the sources to guide you back to your own documents within the synthesized information.

WhatsApp is Coming to Wear OS

This summer, WhatsApp will be coming to WearOS devices. This will allow users with a Pixel Watch or other compatible device to view and respond to WhatsApp messages from their wrist.

Google Maps Update

Google maps will be getting an AI update as well that will give users a new Immersive View for routes that lets them traverse their route from a birds eye view. It will also be able to incorporate weather and traffic. This will be rolling out in select large cities around the world.

Generative AI Wallpapers Coming to Android

Another interesting use of AI and AI images that was announced are wallpapers in android. Arriving this fall to Android devices, AI wallpapers will allow you to create your own walllpapers using generative AI prompts as well as emojis,
