google: Google shares Google Assistant feature alert: New way to make your smart speaker stop talking – Times of India

Google has started to roll out a new helpful Google Assistant feature. As announced by the tech giant in a Twitter post, you now tell Google Assistant to stop talking without saying the trigger word ‘Hey Google’ to activate the assistant. “Helpful new Google Assistant feature alert! Want your smart display or speaker to stop talking? Just say “stop” — no #HeyGoogle needed,” goes the Twitter post.
The feature was first introduced by the company at its annual I/O event in 2019 where it showcased the ability to cancel the alarms just by saying “stop”. The similar feature called Quick Phrases made its way to Google’s flagship Pixel 6 series in 2021. Now, these Quick Phrases are coming to smart speakers with Google Assistant.
Although the feature is only limited to the word “stop” as of now, it is likely that you may be able to use various other features without saying the ‘Hey Google’ trigger phrase in the future. You may be able to use the feature for various commands to answer calls, stop alarms and few other basic functions. It will put the Google Assistant on standby and whenever you receive a call, the Assistant will wait for your command to ‘Answer’ or ‘Decline’ the call. Similarly, when your alarm goes off, the Assistant will wait for your command to say ‘Stop’ or ‘Snooze’. Code for similar functions have already been spotted in the Google Assistant app for Pixel 6 smartphones.
In a previous analysis, 9to5Google predicted that the feature will be available across devices including smartphones, speakers, televisions and many others. According to the report, apart from the command mentioned above, users will also be able to add specific commands as per their choice. These commands will be categorised into ‘Recommended’, ‘Alarms’, ‘Connect’, ‘General Info’, ‘Lights’, ‘Media Controls’, ‘Timers’ and ‘To-Dos’.
