Google Chrome rival gained a huge free perk on iPhone – and people are switching
GOOGLE Chrome’s rival just gained a huge free perk on iPhone which has seen people make the switch.
Web browser Opera is rolling out free VPN access to all users on iOS.
The service is now available on apple devices including iPhone and iPad.
Opera’s announcement makes it the first provider to offer free VPN across all platforms.
The company said: “Users simply need to toggle a switch in the main menu to browse in peace, since the Opera Browser makes sure VPN traffic is encrypted and IP address is private.”
Users can access the free service without logging in and without a subscription.
Offering privacy and security, it can be accessed through the triple line icon in the bottom right hand corner of the Opera for iOS app.
It will however take a few weeks to be rolled out to users worldwide.
The browser has also received two new features.
Opera added: “A Bookmarks feature will allow users to better organize their lives online, and coupled with Speed Dial ensure immediate access to what’s most important.
“And for football fans, a new Live Scores feature lands on the browser’s homepage.
“A scoreboard that displays the day’s matches – whether they are upcoming, in progress, or the final whistle has already gone – Live Scores will help users stay on top of the action worldwide.”
VPN stands for ‘virtual private network’.
It is software which when activated changes the “address” of a computer, laptop, tablet or mobile.
Software which uses VPN technology adds an extra layer of security to computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
VPNs make it much harder for snoopers to monitor your online activity, helping to protect personal data and information.
