Google Chrome for Android devices to get this new ‘privacy’ feature – Times of India

Google Chrome recently started testing the Privacy Review feature on the desktop version and now the company is reportedly bringing the feature on Android devices as well. The Privacy Guide describes various privacy controls to users in simple terms and it also tells how the controls affect the overall browsing experience. As spotted by Techdows, there are only two toggles inside the section right now as the feature is currently under development. It is expected that it will be available to more users in the upcoming Chrome updates.
The first toggle is ‘Make searches and browsing better’ that shares the URLs you visit and Chrome usage report to the company. It provides faster browsing and improved suggestions in the address bar. The second toggle is the History sync that lets you sync your browsing history across all your signed-in devices.
As of now, the feature is hidden behind a flag, to access it on your Android smartphone you can follow these steps:

  1. Launch Chrome browser on your Android smartphone.
  2. Type chrome://flags in the address bar of Chrome browser.
  3. Search for ‘privacy’, in the dropdown for Privacy Review.
  4. Select ‘Enabled’ and restart the browser.
  5. To review the privacy settings, tap on the three-dot icon.
  6. Tap on Settings.
  7. Select Privacy and Security.
  8. Tap on the Privacy Guide.

Recently, Chrome’s product manager Yana Yushkina revealed that the browser now shows results within 500 milliseconds as it fetches search results from the web even before you select a query.
The company also removed the local cache to resolve a top shutdown hang. The local cache was added to Chrome’s history system with the goal of making startup faster. The company later found out that not only did this cache add code complexity and unnecessary memory usage, but it was also a top contributor to shutdown hangs in the browser.
