Good Morning Britain viewers are already loving new presenter Gordon Smart, who made his debut on the ITV programme on Thursday.

The 42-year-old Scottish host joined Charlotte Hawkins for the latest episode and will be back at the helm again for another innings on Friday (December 30), while usual hosts Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, and Kate Garraway take time off.

Smart expressed his nerves at the start of the show, telling audiences that it felt like ‘first day of school vibes’.

‘It’s been very surreal the past three years sitting in my pants watching this show and here I am watching you,’ he continued.

‘Thank you for putting on trousers today, I’m grateful!’ Hawkins quipped.

‘I feel like I’ve had the right experience to be here sitting beside you,’ Smart went on.

‘[I’ve been] working in newspapers a long time in the entertainment beat and then politics in Scotland and then a bit of time in radio for the last five years doing music, then politics recently.

‘So, I’ve set myself up for a huge fall, Charlotte… but it’s great to be beside you.’

Viewers were quick to declare their love for Smart online and called him a ‘breath of fresh air’.

‘Well done @GMB, good old Scottish eye candy with a Christmas Buble vibe,’ one praised.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another said: ‘Great to have Gordon on. Fresh breath indeed! As a Scot, fine to see him!’

Even Gail Porter got in touch, writing: ‘Just woken up and you’re on the telly box! Have fun. @GMB. Scottish accents always make me smile. Enjoy. X.’

Gordon previously expressed his delight to be joining the GMB team and enthused: ‘I’m thrilled to be joining the amazing stable of talent, in front and behind the camera, on Good Morning Britain.

‘So many of the issues facing the country right now are close to home and I’m relishing the chance to join the debate.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
