God Of War Ragnarök voice actor just teased that he’s in the next game

Alleged statements by a voice actor have sparked speculation that a certain character will return in the next God Of War game.

Santa Monica Studio may not have outwardly confirmed another God Of War sequel but given how much of a sales success the 2018 game and 2022’s God Of War Ragnarök were, we’d be shocked if a third game isn’t at least in the planning stage.

It probably won’t happen for a while since the studio is said to be ‘spread out on a lot of different things,’ although God Of War Ragnarök director Eric Williams has said he’s more than happy to keep working on the series.

In lieu of any hard info from Santa Monica or Sony, fans have turned to one of God Of War’s voice actors, who has allegedly dropped a hint about what can be expected from a sequel.

A God Of War fan retrospective panel was held at the PAX East convention over the weekend, with voice actor Ben Prendergast appearing as its special guest.

Prendergast voices Týr, the Norse god of war and an important character in God Of War Ragnarök, and while discussing his involvement, it’s said Prendergast implied that his character would make a return.

‘And I’ll say this, it isn’t the last you’ve seen of Týr,’ he apparently said. Later on, when asked about the future of the series, he replied he ‘knows a little, but doesn’t know much’ about the next game, adding that he has signed an NDA so he obviously can’t spill all the beans.

This comes via a report by Shark Games, which attended the panel. Unfortunately, despite the panel being livestreamed, there’s no recorded footage of Prendergast’s statement, thanks to technical difficulties.

Prendergast also hasn’t issued any further comments on social media, but we will update this story should any new info come to light.

It’s always worth remembering that voice actors aren’t the most reliable sources of information when it comes to upcoming games. Given how secretive the industry can be, many voice actors are only given partial or quickly outdated information and are not nearly as good a source of information as you’d imagine.

One Kingdom Hearts voice actor once said Kingdom Hearts 3 would be out in 2015. The game didn’t launch until 2019, four years later. In 2021, a voice actor who claimed to have provided work for Grand Theft Auto 6 said a trailer would air soon. It’s been nearly 20 months since then and Rockstar hasn’t so much as hinted at a trailer.

It’s hard to imagine that Prendergast would know his character will come back in a God Of War sequel at this early stage, especially since God Of War Ragnarök is meant to be the finale for the Norse saga.

Given how nebulous the series’ future is, though, it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that Norse characters will return even if Kratos decides to tangle with another pantheon of gods. It was very brief, but other characters from the previous games set in Greece did make cameos in the Norse saga.

It’s also entirely possible that Prendergast was referring to Amazon’s upcoming God Of War TV series, which will adapt the Norse saga. If it gets as far as covering God Of War Ragnarök, then of course Týr will be making an appearance. Whether Prendergast will still play him, though, is another story.

Some have speculated he was hinting at a spin-off or DLC, but the latter is unlikely since God Of War Ragnarök’s director has already expressed little enthusiasm for adding more content to the game.
