Goa school timings changed after heatwave alert, classes till 12 noon – Times of India

Looking at the heatwave conditions and alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Goa education department has decided to close the schools before 12 noon on Thursday and Friday.
Classes were conducted in Goa schools only till 12 noon on Thursday due to a heat wave, an official said. The state Director of Education Shailesh Sinai Zingade issued a circular that said the heat wave will continue for one more day as per the IMD, due to which classes in the schools will be shut at 12 noon on Friday as well.
“Because of the strengthening of easterly winds, clear sky conditions, and delay in setting time of sea breeze, the maximum temperature over Goa is likely to remain 4-6 degrees Celsius higher than its normal value. Persistence of these conditions is likely to satisfy the criteria of a heat wave over the region on March 8 and 9,” the Goa observatory of IMD stated.
“Please note that heatwave conditions are likely at isolated places over North Goa and South Goa. Maximum temperatures are likely to fall gradually by 2-3 degrees from 11th March onwards. The warnings are issued based on the latest observations and numerical weather prediction model guidance,” the IMD said.
However, as per sources from the education department, as final exams are ongoing at many schools, they have been asked to advance the timings of examinations. “Management has to work on this and advance the timing of exams. They should take it seriously,” the sources said.
