Look out for this blue tick going forward

It’s designed to make it easier to spot a trusted source as cyber fraud continues to grow.

The badge comes in the form of a blue badge which shows next to the company’s name.

It’s quite like a Twitter or Instagram verified badge but for your email.

When you hover over the email sender’s name it comes up with a popup.

It says that the “sender of this email has verified” they own the domain name of the address they’re sending from.

This also includes the logo in their profile image.

Companies will have to register themselves on a database to gain the tick.

That system – known as Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) – has been around since 2021.

“Strong email authentication helps users and email security systems identify and stop spam, and also enables senders to leverage their brand trust,” Google said in a blog post.

“This increases confidence in email sources and gives readers an immersive experience, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone.”

So look out for it whenever you receive an email you’re not sure about going forward.

Google revealed that the new feature will roll out from today.
