Global PC Shipments: Global PC Shipments declined 13.4% YoY in Q2 2023, Apple managed to achieve double-digit growth – Times of India
Reasons for the decline in PC shipments
The report suggests that the overall weak demand is one of the reasons behind the declining PC shipments. “overall weak demand has caused inventory levels to remain above normal for longer than expected. This includes finished systems at the channel level, as well as the supply chain. So far, no PC maker has been immune to the challenges presented by the market. Except for Apple and HP Inc., all the leading companies experienced double-digit declines during the quarter,” mentions the report.
“The PC industry has faced an extremely challenging roller coaster of supply and demand over the past five years. Companies are hesitant to make big bets on a market rebound, not wanting to be caught with short supply like in 2020 and 2021,” adds Ryan Reith, group vice president for IDC’s Client Device Trackers.
How Apple and HP’s performed
Apple experienced a positive year-over-year comparison, benefiting from a more favorable performance compared to the previous year when the company faced supply issues caused by COVID-related shutdowns in the supply chain during the second quarter of 2022. On the other hand, HP encountered an oversupply of inventory over the past year. However, the company is now approaching normalised levels of inventory, which has allowed its growth rate to stand out during this downturn.
