Glazers didn’t hold Man Utd takeover talks and Jassim call explained

Express Sport is here to bring you the latest Manchester United news following their 1-0 win over Real Betis on Thursday night. The Glazers, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim all feature in our round-up. So read on below for all the latest news information coming out of the club.

The Glazers didn’t hold talks

According to the Daily Mail, the Glazers weren’t present for talks with the representatives of Sheikh Jassim on Thursday.

Neither was the Qatari billionaire, either.

Instead, it’s said that a ‘series of big hitters’ descended on the city, with many ‘taking the train’ after they’d flown into London.

Shahzad Shahbaz, president of the Nine Two Foundation, and Fady Bakhos – the Sheikh’s senior personal advisor – were both present.

And so too were Sam Powers, global head of technology, media and telecoms at Bank of America, and managing director Yasir Shah.

Man Utd takeover: Man Utd making plans for five players

Ratcliffe bringing five

On Friday, Ratcliffe will jet into Manchester for talks.

And The Independent claim he’ll be bringing five people with him as he looks to become frontrunner in the battle to secure a takeover.

Ineos co-owners Andy Currie and John Reece are due to join him.

So too are INEOS Sport chair Rob Nevin, and chief executive Jean Claude Blanc.

And former British cycling chief Sir Dave Brailsford, as a director of sport at Ineos Sport, will be there as well.

Ten Hag hails Rashford

Speaking after United beat Real Betis, Erik ten Hag hailed Marcus Rashford for his heroics – with the England international bagging the only goal of the game.

“I think he missed two big chances but then he can deal with that,” said the 53-year-old. “That is important for a striker, you can deal with not every chance can be a goal.

“He will always be in the position he can score and he has to be focused on that. He keeps trying and he got his reward.

“It tells you something about the team performance and something about him [his goal record]. We have discussed a lot about the issue from the start of the season: if Rashy keeps his focus and makes sure he has the energy, the way we play, the way he has to play in that system and style, he will come into scoring positions and then it’s about him.

“He has the abilities to finish. That’s what I try to explain [to you] – also good strikers must know not every chance is a goal. On this level, you don’t create five or six chances in a top game so one of the two [chances] has to be in.”

Attentions switching focus

Also speaking following the win, Ten Hag insisted attentions were now firmly on Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday.

“It’s a big game on Sunday,” said the Dutchman.

“We know that so we have to do everything what is in our power to get that done.

“We have less time, we know, but we can manage that. We’ve done it several times and also Sunday, we must get the energy, get the focus and get ready for the start.

“It’s the FA Cup and a big fixture, a big match for us. After Sunday, we will see – it’s the international break and we can refocus.”
