The girlfriend of Nick Cave’s late son, Jethro Lazenby, has spoken out for the first time since his death.

Lazenby died on May 9 at the age of 31 just days after he was released from jail on bail after admitting to attacking his mother Beau Lazenby.

The model was reportedly found at a motel in northern Melbourne, Australia, but a cause of death has not been revealed.

His girlfriend Danica Conwell, who had known him for six years, his now shared her heartbreak over Lazenby’s death.

Conwell claims she wasn’t invited to Lazenby’s funeral and allegedly wasn’t told about it by his family.

‘I’m not doing well with this at all and that’s what wakes are for to say good bye, help closure on the mourning process… It’s evil to deny someone this,’ she said.

Paying tribute to her late boyfriend, Conwell told the Mail Online: ‘He was definitely more than he showed most people. He was hard to get close to… A higher being in so many ways. But his shadow plagued him.’

Conwell revealed she had plans to see Lazenby on the day he died, but they cancelled the plans beforehand, adding: ‘Had things have been different we would have come together again, drank bubble tea… Why didn’t we just have dinner Friday night?’

She described the late photographer as ‘vibrant’ and ‘passionate’, and praised his piano and poetry skills.

‘He lived a fantastic life and I loved him… He had a lot to live for,’ she said.

Lazenby’s father, Bad Seeds musician Cave, announced his death in a brief statement that said: ‘With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away.

‘We would be grateful for family privacy at this time.’

Cave has since thanked fans for their support, writing in a message on his website: ‘Many others have written to me about Jethro, sending condolences and kind words.

‘These letters are a great source of comfort and I’d like to thank all of you for your support.’

He added: ‘I’ll be back to The Red Hand Files in a few weeks.

‘Love, Nick.’
