Girl with rare ageing disorder dies at 15

The US teen, who was a popular YouTube star, has tragically died, with her heartbroken family saying she is “no longer in pain”.

YouTuber Adalia Rose Williams has tragically died aged 15.

The teen, from the US state of Texas, had three million followers on YouTube where she shared her passion for fashion and beauty.

Adalia was born with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, a rare medical condition that caused her to age rapidly.

“January 12, 2022 at 7pm Adalia Rose Williams was set free from this world,” a statement posted to social media on behalf of Adalia’s family said.

“She came into it quietly and left quietly, but her life was far from it. She touched MILLIONS of people and left the biggest imprint in everyone that knew her.”

Adalia was “no longer in pain and is now dancing away to all the music she loves”, the statement continued.

“I really wish this wasn’t our reality but unfortunately it is. We want to say thank you to everyone that loved and supported her,” it said.

“Thank you to all her doctors and nurses that worked for YEARS to keep her healthy. The family would now like to mourn this huge loss in private.”

Adalia’s death has been met with an outpouring of grief from fans, many of whom said their “heart is breaking” at the news.

“I’m so sad to see this today,” one person commented on Instagram.

“Grateful she was able to spread so much joy to people around the world, especially the young children who look like her who felt seen and represented. May she rest in peace.”

“I’m truly heartbroken to hear this news,” another wrote. “I loved everything about her. I’m so sorry. You raised a beautiful young woman.”

Adalia first entered the spotlight nearly 10 years ago when her family began sharing their life on YouTube and Facebook.

Her mother Natalia Amozurrutia created a Facebook page so educate others about Adalia’s rare condition.

Adalia was diagnosed with progeria at just three months old when Ms Amozurrutia noticed her daughter wasn’t growing like other babies and instead, her stomach was stretching, The Sun reports.

The YouTube sensation is only one of 400 children worldwide to have the sadly fatal condition.

What is Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome?

Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, often known simply as progeria, is a rare genetic condition that causes children to age prematurely and at a rapid rate.

It is not inherited and is instead caused by a random gene mutation, with babies presenting as normal at birth.

Progeria will then develop during the first two years of a child’s life, with symptoms including slowed growth in height and weight, visible veins, hair loss, wrinkles and incomplete closure of eyelids, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Kids diagnosed with progeria will live on average to 13, however, some with the condition have been known to live until 20.

They usually die of either heart attack, heart failure or stroke caused by hardening of their arteries.
