Gino D’Acampo didn’t mince his words when talking about fellow This Morning chef James Martin, describing him as ‘filthy’ while comparing their culinary techniques.

On Tuesday’s edition of the ITV programme, Gino joined co-hosts Holly Willoughby and Dermot O’Leary in the kitchen to prepare an alternative version of a tiramisu for them, without the dessert’s usual ingredient of coffee.

While preparing the dish, the 46-year-old demonstrated to Holly, 42, and Dermot, 50, how to fold egg whites, explaining his technique meant that he wouldn’t lose ‘volume’.

Folding the egg whites with a utensil, the Italian chef said: ‘When you do the egg white you keep folding it like this, okay, because you don’t want to lose the volume on the egg whites.’

However, Holly pointed out that James, 50, had a different method that he was ‘adamant’ about.

‘James Martin said it was better to fold with your hands,’ she said, as Dermot added: ‘Yes, he was adamant about it!’

Holly continued: ‘He said just dunk your fists in it,’ but Gino wasn’t convinced by his peer’s point of view.

‘He’s a filthy chef. Why would you want to fold it with your hands?’ he questioned.

Dermot remarked that James has ‘lovely big hands’, while Holly chimed in to outline that James felt his hands-on method gave him more ‘control’.

Despite his scepticism, Gino then decided to give it a go… and admitted that he found it ‘quite satisfying’.

‘Now you like it, don’t you?’ Holly asked, as the chef remarked: ‘Oh wow, oh it’s quite satisfying, it’s like putting your finger into a bubbly candle.’

Nonetheless, he didn’t appear convinced, muttering to himself: ‘James Martin, please.’

At another point during the programme, Gino made an incredibly awkward joke that appeared to refer to Phillip Schofield, who quit the programme last month before admitting that he lied about having an affair with a runner.

Addressing his own hiatus from This Morning, Gino said: ‘I was in Italy for a month. I came back two days ago … any news? Anything from the last month that I should know?’

Dermot looked awkward, while Holly chirpily responded: ‘No!’

While Holly continued to insist that there was ‘no news’, Gino stirred the pot even more when he stated: ‘Why is Dermot not talking anymore?’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
