Gethin Jones breaks silence after ‘bawling’ on air as body ‘in bits’

Gethin Jones, 45, blew audiences away after competing in an exhausting and relentless challenge of epic proportions.

The Morning Live host danced non-stop for 24 hours alongside his BBC co-stars, all to raise life-changing money for Comic Relief.

Speaking on his incredible feat to Express.co.uk, Gethin has now said: “I was in bits physically by the end, but it is irrelevant in terms of the elation.

“We raised a lot of money for people who really bl***y need it in the situation we find ourselves in and it was a privilege to be a part of it.”

The star went on to praise his colleagues, who included professional dancers from Strictly Come Dancing.

He continued: “I was very much leading an amazing team who mean the world to me.

“Even now I get a bit emotional, I haven’t cried that much since Konnie Huq waxed my chest on Blue Peter.

“I was literally just bawling my eyes out,” Gethin admitted.

Exhausted Gethin wiped away tears and collapsed on the floor after learning he had raised over £1 million for Comic Relief following the 24-hour danceathon.

The former Blue Peter presenter couldn’t control his emotions when he was told about the milestone figure he had raised.

The BBC Morning Live host boogied his way through the night – while dressed in various costumes, including as Pixar’s Mr. Incredible – in a bid to raise funds, which continued to climb.

Gethin was joined on the daytime show by his co-stars Kimberley Walsh and Helen Skelton live on air for the final countdown to completing his charity danceathon.

Golden confetti rained down on them after the ticker ran down, and he told viewers: “This celebration sums it up. All the messages overnight have been phenomenal.

“I can’t quite believe what we’ve raised for Comic Relief,” admitted the veteran TV host.

Choking up, Gethin began to cry as he gushed: “It’s going to change lives. It’s going to save lives. I’ve said it all along, I’m so proud. I feel privileged to have led it but it’s a team effort.”

The Cardiff-born presenter – who has just been announced as an ambassador for GO Outdoors’ brand new North Ridge – was surrounded by co-workers who cheered on his impressive achievement.

North Ridge is a brand that creates easy-to-wear clothing that’s ready for the outdoors, suited to both town and trail adventures.
