German shepherd who’s ‘everybody’s best friend’ has waited two years for a home
Meet Jake, the lovely German shepherd cross who’s desperately looking for home in which to see out his twilight years.
The ten-year-old has spent a whopping two years with the RSPCA, where it’s safe to say he’s won staff over.
Manager Anna White said: ‘Jake is a sweet, affectionate boy who can be nervous around new people.
‘He sometimes barks at unfamiliar people but, once he gets to know you, he loves a fuss and will even nudge you for strokes if you dare to stop giving him attention.
‘He really is everybody’s best friend here at Southridge and over the years he’s been with us – we’ve fallen in love with him.
‘But he’s been waiting far too long for his forever home, and we’re desperate to find him his perfect match.’
Jake was handed over to the charity after his previous owners’ circumstances changed and they could no longer look after him.
He loves to play with his tennis ball, and is a very smart cookie who already knows commands including ‘sit’ and ‘paw’.
Jake also loves going for walks and gets very excited when he’s got his lead on.
He can be strong on the lead and finds meeting other dogs very challenging, which makes him vocal and over-excited.
He can be left on his own at home for short periods, and he’s especially happy for you to do so if he’s got a little treat to keep him busy (who among us isn’t?).
Ideally, he’s after an adult-only home without any visiting children where he’ll be the only pet.
He’d also prefer to live in a quiet, rural area with access to a secure, private garden and a nice soft bed where he can chill out when he needs time to himself.
Anna said: ‘We’re looking for experienced owners to take Jake on; preferably someone who has experience with German Shepherds and is happy to continue his training and socialisation.
‘We’d like them to come into the centre a few times to meet him and take him for walks, so they can get to know him.’
Do you think you could be right for this handsome guy? You can enquire after him via the RSPCA website.
