The former footballer played a Pique blinder when he hit back at the Colombian superstar’s diss track about him, which racked up 63million YouTube views in 24 hours.
The Hips Don’t Lie singer takes aim at Pique, 35, and his 23-year-old girlfriend Clara Chia, by singing in Spanish: ‘You swapped a Ferrari for a Twingo, you swapped a Rolex for a Casio.’
And the Barcelona FC legend tackled the taunt head-on by arriving at an event at the wheel of a Renault Twingo, getting out of the car with a satisfied grin. He also revealed watchmaker Casio will sponsor the Spanish King’s League, the seven-a-side competition he established after retiring from football in November.
‘I’m being serious,’ he told a press conference, with Argentinian striker Sergio Agüero chipping in: ‘It was because of Shakira’s song.’
Shakira, 45, and Pique, who have two children, split in June after 11 years together and he is believed to have moved on with Clara four months later.
Earlier this week images emerged of a life-size witch doll perched on the balcony of Shakira’s Spanish pad, believed to overlook the home of her mother-in-law.
It is presumed to be a dig as on her new track, Shakira Bzrp Music Sessions 53, she also trills: ‘You left me with your mum as a neighbour, with the press at my door and a debt to the taxman.’
