Geoffrey Edelsten’s ex claims she was choked
Brynne Gordon has alleged she was choked and punched during her marriage to controversial figure Geoffrey Edelsten amid an explosive row over his cheating.
The American reality star, 39, is currently suing Edelsten’s estate, claiming the businessman failed to fulfil financial promises made before they split in 2013, leaving her homeless with only $79.28 in her bank account.
In court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Gordon alleged how the late businessman, who was more than 40 years her senior, flew off the handle in March 2012 when she confronted him over messages he’d sent to several women from various dating sites.
She went on to allege he turned violent and chased her around their Melbourne penthouse apartment in a fit of rage.
Gordon claims in court documents her ex-husband punched her in the chest during the altercation, but while she managed to “kick” him away, Edelsten grabbed her hair tie, wrapping it around her neck and choking her.
“I could not breathe and began coughing and gasping for air,” Gordon wrote in the affidavit, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The documents further claim police were called over the alleged assault, but the report wasn’t formalised to avoid media attention.
Gordon says the couple sought counselling to address Edelsten’s “physical and verbal abuse” and infidelity after the incident, but they went on to split the following year, leaving her in financial distress.
“I was then [at the time of separation], and am now, in a poor financial position and I have not received any entitlements as a spouse of Geoffrey whilst he was alive, nor under his will. He has failed to make proper provision for me,” Gordon said in her affidavit.
The duo met in 2008, with Gordon claiming the wealthy businessman sent her an email two weeks later offering her a $50 million “deal” to wed him the following year.
“Please read carefully and respond if you wish before midnight tonight or this proposal lapses,” it’s claimed Edelsten wrote on October 31, telling Gordon he was “besotted” from their time together in Las Vegas.
The email, which has been provided to the court as part of Gordon’s case, outlined exactly how much Gordon would receive while they were together, with promises Edelsten would bequeath $1 million at the end of each year.
“We will marry after one year engagement. We will sign a prenup but you will receive a bequest of a minimum of $10 million,” he allegedly wrote.
He is also claimed to have said she would receive “everything plus some charitable donations” if they were still married when he died.
“That will exceed $50 million plus.”
Edelsten concluded that all the terms in his proposal were subject to one condition: “No infidelity”.
The former owner of the Sydney Swans was found dead in his Melbourne home aged 78 in June 2021.
