Gentleman Jack fans convinced season 2 finale will end on ‘massive cliffhanger’
The BBC drama is based on the decoded diaries of Anne Lister (Suranne Jones), who is widely considered the ‘first modern lesbian.’
In recent weeks, fans have got to entrepreneur Lister settle into married life with wife Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle), but things haven’t run as smoothly as they hoped.
While Ann has experience troubles with her family, her tour de force partner has seen her former partner Marianna Lawton (Lydia Leonard) desperate to get her away from her new love.
Of course, this has all taken place while trying to keep the true nature of their romantic a secret from the prying eyes of Halifax locals in the 1830s.
But with just one episode left of the current season before it comes to a close, fans are convinced there’s a momentous cliffhanger to come, as loose ends still remain.
Taking to Twitter after the penultimate instalment, avid viewers weighed in with their predictions for next week.
One shared: ‘Sally will 100% leave S2 on a cliffhanger to encourage an S3 renewal and I am 100% not ready for it #GentlemanJack
Another echoed: ‘Oh my God. I’m just coming to terms with the fact that there’s only one episode to finish season two. Please don’t give us a cliffhanger ???????? #GentlemanJack.’
‘Lots of tension between the Ann(e)s in Ep7. ???? And we know they have another fight (at least one) in the last episode. Not feeling good about this. Are we headed for a cliffhanger? #GentlemanJack2 #GentlemanJack,’ someone else added.
A fan replied: ‘Omg, this is my biggest fear. But if it leads to season 3 I will endure it. #GentlemanJack.’
‘There best be a season 3 of #GentlemanJack cos I’m literally on edge of my seat watching every ep this season! #gentlemanjack2,’ commented a viewer.
At the Sky Up Next event, she shared with Metro.co.uk: ‘We don’t know! We’re just kind of like, it’s in the hands of BBC and HBO so I’m sure there’ll be talks now,’ she said.
Suranne did go on to stress how there is a definite desire for more amongst fans.
‘I know all the fans really want it, Sally really wants to write it,’ she said, referring to the show’s creator and writer Sally Wainwright.
‘So as with anything, has there been enough people watching it? Is there enough need for it? I think there is, but yeah… let’s see,’ she concluded.
But with a season three yet to be announced, you’ll have to watch this space for a little bit longer to find out what’s next for our favourite 1800s couple.
Gentleman Jack concludes on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
