Genshin Impact: Tighnari’s Voice Actor to Be Recast Over Sexual Abuse Allegations, All We Know

Genshin Impact character Tighnari’s English voice actor, Elliot Gindi, was recently accused of grooming underage fans, transphobic behaviour, and emotional abuse by moderators of his Twitch and Discord server. The voice actor admitted to engaging in some of this behaviour after screenshots of his chats were posted online.

At the time, Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse issued a statement stating that it is working to find an “urgent solution” with its internal teams and external partners “including our voice studio.” Now, the official Genshin Impact account on Twitter has released a public statement on Gindi’s future with the game.

“After communications with the voice recording agency, we hereby confirm that Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari will no longer be voicing the character in subsequent versions due to a breach of contract,” the game’s account said.

“At present, we are communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting and re-recording,” the statement continued. “We will gradually replace Tighnari’s existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements. Thank you for your support, Travelers!”

Several Genshin Impact English voice actors thanked HoYoverse for the move, including names such as Zach Aguilar (Aether), Jenny Yokobori (Yoimiya), Anne Yatco (Raiden Shogun), Brianna Knickerbocker (Hu Tao), Alejandro Saab (Cyno), and more.

Many Genshin Impact voice actors came forward in support of the victims and condemned Gindi’s behaviour. You can read more about how the accusations came to light here.

The character Tighnari was added in version 3.0 of the game, and he was among the first characters from the new region of Sumeru, which also became accessible in the patch.
